The Presidential Palace
As soon as Félix Houphouët-Boigny was sworn in as the first President of the newly independent Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, following the signing of the transfer of powers on 7 August 1960, he decided to build a Presidential Palace on the exact site of the Governor’s Palace.
Classic though it is, the symbolism is powerful. The very contemporary option chosen for this new Palace contrasts with the classical style so characteristic of colonial buildings.
