Biography

Tiémoko Meyliet KONE has been Vice-President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire since 19 April 2022, after being sworn in on 20 April 2022.
He was born on 26 April 1949 in Tafiré to the late Seydou Meyliet Koné and Minafou Ouattara.

He is married and has five children. Following his higher education in economics, Mr KONE completed his financial and monetary specialisation at the BCEAO Training Centre between 1973 and 1975 and at the International Monetary Fund Institute in Washington in 1979.
After joining the senior management of the Central Bank of West African States, he held several positions in the Community institution, including :

In 2007, Mr Tiémoko Meyliet KONE joined the Ivorian public administration, where he served as Director of the Private Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, with the rank of Minister (from 2007 to 2010), as Minister of Construction, Town Planning and Housing, and then, from December 2010 to May 2011, as Special Adviser to the President of the Republic, in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs.
From December 2010 to May 2011, he was Special Adviser to the President of the Republic on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

Mr. Tiémoko Meyliet Kone was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of West African States on May 30, 2011, by the Conference of Heads of State of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. His term was renewed in 2014 and 2020, respectively.

As Governor of the BCEAO, Mr. Kone chaired several WAEMU bodies.

The Board of Directors of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund.

Internationally, Mr. Kone has also chaired the following organizations:

the Conference of Governors of French-speaking Countries
the ECOWAS Committee of Central Bank Governors
the African Mobile Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI)

On September 13, 2017, he joined the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), on which the BCEAO represents the regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and South Africa. Mr. Kone has received the following distinctions:
